FHS announces top grads

- Only a fraction of a point separate the Fairfield high school valedictorian and salutatorian this year, but it broke a tie between two students at the end of their junior year.
Finishing first on the academic list of the Class of 2008 is Bradley Walker, posting a 5.30 grade point average, and Caleb Wilson took the second spot with a 5.28.
The two students had matching grade points as they finished their junior year at FHS.
Fairfield will graduate 105 students at commencement exercises June 5 at Eagle Field, of which 26 are listed as honor students for achieving a GPA of at least 4.0.
Rounding out the honor graduate roll are: Tiffany Graham, 5.14; Jay Newberry, 4.93; Samuel Mullen, 4.83; Matthew Ralston, 4.66; Kirra Ibarra, 4.62; Jeff Robinson, 4.61; Brittany Simpson, 4.58; Caitlin Fry, 4.58; Ashley McAdams, 4.50; Amanda Chavers, 4.49; Bryce Morgan, 4.49;
Madeline Munoz, 4.48; Ben Cooper, 4.33; Choicetta McMillian, 4.32; Brandon Hartson, 4.31; Eric Palmer, 4.27; Jeff Pearce, 4.23; Nick Baker, 4.22; Matthew Harris, 4.21; Ben Black, 4.20; Wade Elliott, 4.05; Eric Bradford, 4.03; Kati Linton, 4.03; and Antwanise Jackson, 4.0.
Walker, 18, is the son of David and Patsy Walker and attended FHS from kindergarten through senior year.
He will attend Texas A&M University to major in mechanical engineering, but plans to go to medical school after completing bachelor’s degree requirements.
With advance placement classes at FHS, the valedictorian starts A&M with 26 college credits.
“I just tried to do the best that I could,” he says of achieving the top academic ranking.
“I studied when I had to, but it was more paying attention in class,” he adds.
Walker lettered in football two years and in golf four years.
He is a member of Beta Club, Science Club and Spanish Club, is Fellowship of Christian Athletes treasurer and was FFA greenhand president as a freshman student.
The valedictorian is a member of Calvary Baptist and helped with Vacation Bible School in summer.
Wilson, 18, is the son of John and Shelly Wilson and also attended school in Fairfield from kindergarten through senior year.
The FHS salutatorian will attend A&M to major in history, although he says that may change, and is considering attending law school.
“The (academic) placing didn’t really matter to me as much as the scholarships. That motivated me to make good grades,” he says.
Wilson lettered in football one year and in tennis two years.
He is a member of Beta Club and Speech Club, is a Spanish Club officer, senior class reporter and past president of Family Career and Community Leaders of America.
A member of First Baptist Church, Wilson has helped with Vacation Bible School and worked with World Changers and Power Plant.
In addition, the salutatorian has volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels delivering meals to elderly Fairfield residents.
