Awards banquet
slated on Monday

- Outstanding contributions to the community, and accomplishments, will be recognized Monday evening at the annual awards banquet of Fairfield chamber of commerce.
The event is set for 7 p.m. at the elementary school cafeteria and carries a theme “Laughter is Good Medicine,” mirroring the topic of guest speaker Christine Clifford Beckwith.
The speaker, of Edina, Mn., is a former marketing executive, author, Certified Speaking Professional and founder of The Cancer Club, an organization that specializes in marketing humorous and helpful products to help people with cancer.
Since being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994, Mrs. Beckwith has written six books, five of them about dealing with cancer. Signed copies of the books will be available at the chamber banquet.
Awards to be presented by the chamber are “Citizen of the Year,” “Civic Organization of the Year,” “Business of the Year,” “Ambassador of the Year” and “Junior Ambassador of the Year.”
In addition, Fairfield Independent School District will announce its “Youth of the Year” and “Teacher of the Year” awards.
Serving as master of ceremonies is immediate past chamber president Edie Bayless, who will introduce guests and chamber directors, introduce the speaker and speak about chamber work during 2007.
New chamber president Ray Green will recognize the past president and outgoing directors, and will speak on plans for 2008.
Outgoing directors are Greg Lindsey, Jason Rollo, Andy Jones, Wendi Green, Will Hallmark and Beth Harrison.
Officers and directors for 2008 are president Ray Green, first vice president Tina Utley, second vice president Mary Small, president emeritus Edie Bayless, Andy Awalt, Mary Dodd, Gail Farish, Amanda Jones, Sandy Markwardt, Carol Moller, Jason Hullum, Amy Ralston, Sonny Daniel, Corey Hale and Vanessa Dotson.
