A pilot from Barry escaped serious injury Friday evening when his single engine, homemade aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Teague Municipal Airport.
The airplane crash landed in a pasture a half mile west of Teague at 6:33 p.m.
Witness to the incident, Joy McAdams, in whose pasture the craft set down, told Department of Public Safety troopers that the engine was making odd noises.
Pilot Ricky Stanley Biffle, 55, reports he took off from the airport in Teague and was climbing to 500 feet when he started to lose altitude.
After the crash, which ripped the nose and cockpit of the airplane open, Mrs. McAdams retrieved Biffle and took him to her residence nearby and reported the incident.
Biffle sustained non-incapacitating face and upper body cuts.
He was taken to Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia by Teague Emergency Medical Service.
