Over 80 interns, participating in Marathon Oil's three month internship program, gathered at the company's Fairfield office last week for a field trip and luncheon.
The summer internship program includes students from around the country who are given the opportunity to gain exposure to industry practices and the workings of a large, international, fully integrated oil company.
The interns boarded buses in Houston and were driven to the Fairfield branch office where they then traveled to well sites to observe daily operations and procedures.
Of the 80 interns in attendance, three students were assigned to the Fairfield office including Josiah Cantu, Matthew DeFriend and Gabriel Guillen.
They began their internships on May 20 and have used their time at the Fairfield office to apply their academic knowledge to real-world scenarios in a business setting.
Guillen is a senior student at the University of Houston and is studying mechanical engineering.
Fairfield alum, Matthew DeFriend, is studying petroleum engineering at Texas A&M University and is a junior.
Cantu is a junior at Cal State Northridge in California and is studying chemical production and petroleum engineering.
Following their field experiences, the interns were treated to a luncheon catered by Country Cousins of Centerville.
