Gates open at 8 p.m.. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 5-12. “This year’s rodeo is poised to provide fun and excitement for all rodeo lovers,” Ike Carden Rodeo Association president Garland McIlveen says. Events are barrel racing, bareback riding, bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, steer undecorating and team roping, wild cow milking and a calf scramble. A $1,000 bounty is offered in bull riding this year. Books are open from 6-10 p.m. Monday by calling JoEtta Cook at 281-818-1540. Rodeo hands ages 6-14 can participate in youth barrel racing and breakaway roping. A trail ride and camp out precedes the rodeo Friday. To sign up for the trail ride, contact Keith Brackens at 214-668-3391 or Eddie Jones at 214-280-5557. A country western/zydeco dance is set for Saturday after the rodeo. Providing entertainment at the dance and on the camp out is disc jockey Gary Small of Fairfield. The rodeo association is a non profit corporation that uses its funds exclusively to provide college scholarships and for other charitable causes. Premier sponsors are Mr. and Mrs. Tony Brackens, Jr., of Fairfield. Rodeo coordinators are Keith Brackens, Harold Cash, Robert Bailey and George Durham. Board members are McIlveen, vice president Tony Brackens, Jr., secretary Stephanie Whitfield, program director Dorsey Johnson, public relations coordinator Jesse Carden and facilities director Clifford Carden. Associate board members are Ray Alford, Keith Brackens, Irene Slaughter, Elawrence Gabriel and Sue Cunningham. |
