Funeral services were held last weekend for Nettie Larcenia Blakeley, 87, of Dallas who died Friday, Dec. 7 at Life Care Hospital in Dallas. Mrs. Blakeley was born Aug. 2, 1920 in Coolidge to Peter and Hallie Mae Livingston Blakeley. She was raised in the Furney Richardson Community outside of Teague and graduated valedictorian of the Furney Richardson class of 1937. Mrs. Blakeley earned her bachelor of science from Huston-Tilloston College in Austin and her master of education from Prairie View A&M University. For more than forty years, she worked as a teacher in Freestone and Limestone county and was a member of the Titus Chapel United Methodist Church where she served as secretary, treasurer, trustee, announcing clerk, adult class Sunday school teacher and recording secretary for the Teague Circuit Charge Conferences. Mrs. Blakeley also served as Worthy Counselor of Jonquil Court #262, Teague Court of Calanthe, faculty representative for the Furney Richardson Alumni Association, past vice president of the Freestone County Retired Teacher’s Association and president for the Christian Aid Burial Association. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the First United Methodist Church of Teague with Rev. Joshua Fields and Dr. Charlie Wade Gillespie officiating. Burial followed at Grove Island Cemetery in Teague. Pallbearers were Romi Edwards, Jr., Dwight Glasco, Rickey Heggar, James Heggar, James Jackson and Greg Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Arzo Burnim, Don Glasco, McKenzie Jackson, Rufus Jackson, Sr., Charlie Ray Johnson and Michael Love. Mrs. Blakeley is survived by sister Ella Savannah Yarbrough of Fort Worth; nephew-son Willie Perry Love and wife Dorothy of Dallas; nephew Romie Lee Edwards, Jr. of Fort Worth; nieces Phyllis Martshal of Fort Worth, Hattie Mae Smith and husband Greg of Fort Worth, Antoinette Mitchell-Morgan and husband Michael of Dallas and Jacquline Mitchell Conner of DeSoto; six great nieces and two great great nephews. Arrangements by Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home of Teague. Nanette Leota Garrett Funeral services were held this week for Nanette Leota Bradford Garrett, 86, of Fairfield who died Thursday, Dec. 13. Mrs. Garrett was born Sept. 11, 1921 in Ennis to the late Jasper and Delia Bradford. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the First Baptist Church in Fairfield with Rev. Bob Gregory and Rev. Benny Mize officiating. Burial was at Birdston Cemetery in Streetman. Pallbearers were John Taylor, John Wilson, Dickie Hill, John Wainwright, Don Suits II, Joe Kirgan, Stanley Gregory and Danny Malone. Mrs. Garrett is survived by son Larry Garrett and wife Sandy of Shelbyville; daughter Sue Baker and husband Ken of Conroe; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Vance Garrett; daughter Carol Lee Faye and two sisters. Arrangements by Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield. Kay (Sissy) Ritchie Memorial services were held this week for Kay Sissy Ritchie, 49, of Phoenix who died Saturday, Dec. 8. Ms. Ritchie was born in Galveston on Oct. 18, 1958. A former resident of Fairfield, Ms. Ritchie resided in Phoenix, Ariz. where she was employed in the insurance industry. Memorial services will be held in Fairfield at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Fairfield Christian Center. Friends and family are invited to attend. Ms. Ritchie is survived by mother Kathryn Ritchie of Fairfield; brothers Jerry Rice of Galveston, Larry Rice of Fairfield, Sonny Ritchie of Clear Lake and Don Ritchie of Tyler; daughter Grace Porter; and granddaughter Madison Porter. Ms. Ritchie’s body was cremated. Geneva B. Johnson Funeral services were held last weekend for Geneva B. Johnson of Teague who died Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Teague Nursing Home. Mrs. Johnson was born in Philadelphia, Penn. to John Henry Burke and Sallie Carrie Lou Barrett. She attended school in Glassboro, NC and was baptized by Rev. William Harkenson at Psalmist Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson married James Johnson and worked as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of the Elks in New York and a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Teague. Mrs. Johnson attended Sunday School and participated in the Prayer Breakfast Circle and United Methodist Women’s group. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joshua Fields and Rev. Roger Hunter officiating. Burial was at Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard F. Price, Julius Vickers, Terrell Mighty, Garvis Vickers, Roger Nealy, Sosthene Fuselier, Ivory Castee and Henry Owens. Honorary pallbearers were St. James United Methodist Church Stewards, the Prayer Breakfast Circle, Teague Nursing Home Staff and Providence Hospice Staff. Mrs. Johnson is survived by son Gerald L. Burke and wife Ricarda of Teague; nephew Harry Burke of Trenton, New Jersey; niece Marion Smith of Houston; special friend of the family Janet Walker of Mexia; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Eva Watts Funeral services were held last weekend for Eva Watts, 89, of Teague who died Friday, Dec. 7 at Crestview Court Residential Facility in Dallas. Mrs. Watts was born in Freestone County to Elijah and Minnie Felix and was baptized by Rev. Holmes at Jerusalem Baptist Church. She married Oscar Brown, Sr. and Cicero Watts and was employed by Mexia State School and Teague ISD. Mrs. Watts was member at First Baptist Church of South Teague where she served on the usher board and participated in choir, Sunday school and Missionary Society. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the First Baptist of Teague with Rev. C.J. Wiley and Rev. Fred Lampkin officiating. Burial was at Avant Cemetery. Pallbearers were Nathaniel Brown, Jr., Billy Brown, Cleophus McDonald, Homer R. Brown, Charles Henderson and John W. Henderson. Honorary pallbearers included the deacons of First Baptist South Teague and the staff of Crestview Court in Dallas. Mrs. Watts is survived by sons Douglas V. Brown of Teague, Oscar C. Brown, Jr. of Fort Worth and Cicero Watts, Jr. of Dallas; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
