Funeral services were held last weekend for Jack Lee Campbell, 71, of Burr Oak, Kansas who died Thursday, Dec. 27 at Robert J. Dole Veterans Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Campbell was born in Winters on March 6, 1936 to Jack W. Campbell and Edna Mae White. He worked as a mechanic for the United States Air Force and married Rosella Marcella Shuck on June 26, 1982 in Pampa. Services were held Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Burr Oak Christian Church. Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 25 years Rosella Campbell of Burr Oak, Kansas; children Sheila Greenfield of Atlanta, Georgia, Lori Dickerman of Easley, South Carolina, Janet Jones of San Antonio; stepdaughters Rosalie Harper of Haven, Kansas, Susan Fraiser of Burr Oak, Kansas, Loraine Daugherty of Haven, Kansas; sisters JoAnn Shipley and Kay Lott, both of Fairfield; brother, Robert Campbell of Pampa; eight step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. Richard Vernon Pounds Funeral services were held last weekend for Richard Vernon Pounds, 82, of Palestine who died Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the David Foster Hospice Unit in Palestine. Mr. Pounds was born on July 17, 1925 in Leon county to James Eddie Pounds and Nora Mullenax Pounds Rogers. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and most recently attended North Jackson Baptist Church. Mr. Pounds served in the United States Army from 19343 to 1946 in the medical detachment unit of the 395th Infantry 100th division and received the Good Conduct medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, and the World War II Victory medal. He was a lifetime member in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Mr. Pounds was employed as a laundry salesman and plant manager at Sunshine Laundry from 1946 to 1967 and Palestine Laundry from 1967 to 2004. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Bailey and Foster Funeral Chapel with Earl King officiating. Burial was at Oakwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Eric Pounds, Jonathan Teetz, Nick Posey, Cliff Perry, Scott Pounds and Mark Freeman. Honorary pallbearers were Mr. Pounds’ great grandsons. Mr. Pounds is survived by wife Dorothy Joanne Pounds of Palestine; daughters Joanne Carol Perry and husband David of Palestine, April Louise Johnston and husband Mike of Lake Palestine, Tina Dawn Teetz and husband Thomas of Elkhart, and Stacy Lynn Posey of Bullard; sons Benjamin (Ben) Ray Pounds and wife Barbara of Palestine and Richard (Rick) Marcus Pounds of Palestine; sister Irene Young and husband Allen of Victoria; brothers J.E. Pounds and wife Joyce of Wichita Falls, Billy James Pounds and wife Dee of Leona and Charles Pounds and wife Stella of Austin; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris Bond Clark and granddaughter Tiffany Michelle Johnson. Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas and Meals on Wheels. Arrangements by Bailey and Foster Funeral Home of Palestine. Evelyn Jones Sims Funeral services were held this week for Evelyn Jones Sims, 93, of Streetman who died Saturday, Jan. 12 in Wortham. Mrs. Sims was born in Richland on Nov. 11, 1914 to Charles Lafayette and Texie Hill Jones. Services began at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Cade Cemetery in Streetman with O.E. Permenter officiating. Pallbearers were Jimmie Ross Young, B.J. Coker, James C. Cooper, F.A. Coleman, J.R. Wagner, Calvert A. Carroll and Danny Ray Richardson. Mrs. Sims is survived by daughters Diane Garett and husband Wiley of Athens, Georgia and Nicole Mitchell and husband Charles of Hewitt; grandchildren Maurie Mitchell of Hewitt, Charles Sims Mitchell of Lorena, and Megan Carnes and Jonathan Garrett, both of Athens, Georgia; and great grandchildren Sutton, Reagan and Keaton Garrett. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband George A. Sims. Memorials may be made to Cade Cemetery or the First Baptist Church of Streetman.
