Funeral services were held last week for Ernest M. Black, 70, of Houston died Monday, Jan. 21. Mr. Black was born in Teague on Jan. 27, 1937 to parents Ben and Mable Black. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Aid officiating. Internment followed at Dew Cemetery. He is survived by children Tressia Nichols, Carrell Varnell, Darrell Black and wife Rhonda, Ernest Black, Jr. and wife Shawn, Terry Black and wife Tammy; brother M.T. Black and wife Thelma; sisters Bernice Latham and husband Sumpter, and Betty Farrell; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Pace-Stancil Funeral Home of Cleveland. Trevellia Terry Chappell Funeral services were held last weekend for Trevellia Terry Chappell, 80, of Clay Hill who died Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Palestine Regional Hospital. Mrs. Chappell was a longtime resident of the Clay Hill community. She was a member of the Church of Christ for over 40 years and worked in the cafeteria during her 13 year employment with Teague Independent School District. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Fairfield Church of Christ. Burial was at Driver Cemetery. Mrs. Chappell is survived by her sons Albert A. Terry, Jr. and wife Susie of Palestine, and Mike Terry and wife Beverly of Jacksonville; grandchildren Amanda Cockerham and husband Tim of Bryan, Carl Lane of Palestine, and Michael Terry of Kingsville; great-granddaughter, Hannah Kate Cockerham of Bryan; and sister Patricia Walker of Price. She is preceded in death by daughter Millie Terry; and husbands Austin Terry, 40 years, and Alton Chappell, 10 years. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home of Teague. Sylvia Bastin Childs Funeral services will be held today for former Fairfield city council member and longtime Freestone County Museum curator Sylvia Bastin Childs, 79, who died Sunday, Jan. 27. Mrs. Childs was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 26, 1928 parents Roy and Julia Kucta Bastin. Services will be held at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Fairfield where Mrs. Childs was a member. Rev. Paul Kethley and David Filis will officiate. Burial is at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers are Harry Moore, David Zilar, Pontene Daniel, Steve Emmons, Russ Loper, Danny Robertson, Jim McKee and Ed Rewine. Honorary pallbearers are Neil Bass, Dr. J.H. Keller, Dr. Harold Moore, Tolbert Casey, Jr., Barry Capps, Charles Easterwood, Billy Ray Vestal, Dr. Jack Lendon Ritter, Sam Billbournias and Lane Stripling. Mrs. Childs is survived by husband Clifton Childs, Jr. of Fairfield; daughters Julie Ann Medford and husband Rick of Fairfield; brothers-in-law J.D. Hudson, Jr. of Waco, Roman J. Petrowski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Bill Goralski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sisters Betty Ruppell of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Janice Johnson and husband Harold of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Sally Muzlowski and husband Harvey of Sumpter, South Carolina; sister-in-law Francis Bastin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; grandchildren Corin Kathleen Burrell and husband Eric and Thomas Edward Childs Medford. She is preceded in death by daughter Janice Kathleen Childs; parents Julia Kucta and Roy C. Bastin; sisters Lucille Peotrowski, Le Wanna Goralski, Belvene Kozlosski and husband Frank, Geraldine Emanuclle and husband Joe, Norma Herman and husband Jack, and Marlene Bastin; brother Roy C. Bastin; mother-in-law Corin Watson Childs; and sister-in-law Carolyn Childs Hudson. Memorials may be made to the Freestone County Museum and Fairfield History Club. Arrangements by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home of Fairfield. Charles Ray Holt Charles R. Holt, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 22 in Portland, Oregon. Mr. Holt was born in Streetman on Aug. 16, 1933 to Elmer (Bo) and Ola Holt. He graduated from Wortham high school in 1950 and the University of Texas after four years in the United States Air Force. Mr. Holt is survived by wife Mary Lou; daughter Jenny Mair; son Brad; granddaughter Gillian; grandson Lee; brothers Johnny and Gene; and sister Gwen Adams. Mr. Holt’s body was cremated and no services were held. |
